Scrum-half Chris Thorman made an outstanding contribution to Huddersfield?s performance by scoring two tries and setting up another but it could not save them from a 36-22 defeat by St Helens.

Thorman, making his first start in four games after recovering from an back injury, was in terrific form all afternoon and scored 14 of the Giants? 22 points.

Thorman converted his brace of tries in the first half to drag the home side level at 12-12 in this engage Super League match after Darren Albert and Paul Wellens scored tries for Saints early on, with Jamie Lyon twice adding the extra.

Former Parramatta ace Thorman then off-loaded for Paul Smith to race over the line on 49 minutes after Albert scored his second try for Saints following the restart.

Thorman weighed in with another conversion and was unlucky when a long distance penalty awarded for holding in the tackle on 53 minutes hit the posts and was cleared to safety.

But Thorman?s tremendous efforts came to nothing as Saints rallied to beat Huddersfield for the third time this season.

The visitors beat Huddersfield at Knowsley Road in 34-24 in a League encounter in February then notched a narrow Powergen Challenge Cup win over the Giants at the Galpharm Stadium three weeks ago.

Scrum-half Mick Higham started the Saints romp to victory by pouncing on substitute Sean Long?s kick through to dive over on 58 minutes and soon after he scored another try with Lyon converting both scores.

Victory was sealed when Huddersfield centre Chris Nero?s attempted pass was intercepted by Vinnie Anderson, with the Saints second rower dashing 60 metres to reach the line in style.

Lyon again converted to complete an impressive goal kicking tally of six goals from six attempts to mark his return to the Saints starting line-up after spending a time down under for the birth of his baby son Riley James.
