International 9's to help Flood Victims
Over 20 teams from far and wide are set to compete in the 10th Annual International Nines tournament with all proceeds raised from the event to go towards helping the Queensland flood victims.
The International Nines will be conducted this coming Saturday, February 5th at New Era Stadium, Cabramatta. A host of NSW Cup and Bundaberg Red Cup teams such as the defending champion Windsor Wolves, Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers, Cabramatta and Mounties will be joined by sides representing countries as far away as the Cook Islands, Fiji and Japan, as they take part in what is always a great day of rugby league.
Another interesting team set to make their tournament debut is the Maitland 'Pumpkin' Pickers.
A proud club from the Newcastle Rugby League competition, the Pickers has produced a number of Australian Internationals over the years, the most recent being Greg Bird.
And with the club having won both the Newcastle Rugby League's First and Reserve Grade competitions in 2010, they look set to be a force come Saturday.
A prize money pool of over $15,000 is on offer, with all teams generously offering to hand prize monies won on the day over to Queensland flood victims.
In addition to the prize money being donated there will also be a host of other activities throughout the day to help raise money for those affected by the floods.
Event Coordinator and International Development Manager, Tas Baitieri is excited by the prospect of a big crowd to help raise some much needed funds for the Queensland flood victims.
