Ipswich & Burleigh play out
thriller

Ipswich & Burleigh played out a thrilling 20 all draw at Bendigo Bank Oval in Ipswich on Saturday night in their round 2 Qld. Cup fixture.

In a see sawing match that saw fortunes fluctuate throughout the evening it was Burleigh who got the scoring underway with an early penalty goal to make the score 2-0.

Ipswich finally took advantage of good field position with a converted try after Jamie Tomlinson went over from dummy half to make the score 6-2 to the home side before Burleigh Winger Trent Purdon crossed for the visitors from a clever kick into the Ipswich in goal to make the half time score 6 all.

Ipswich came out breathing fire in the second half & scored the first try with Ricky Bird diving on a Brendan Lindsay grubber to make the score 10-6 to the Jets.

Burleigh then took the upper hand with tries in quick succession to interchange player John Andrews & winger Aseri Laing to go to a 16-10 lead before the Jets came back with a great individual try to Kyle Warren to close the gap to 2 points with about 15 minutes to go.

John Andrews then crossed for his second but unfortunately for the Bears the match winning conversion went wide so the Jets were still in the game only 6 behind.

With about 5 minutes to go the Jets started to lift & got the break they were searching for when Burleigh had a player sin binned for a proffessional foul, after the Jets took the tap they looked to score the match levelling try only for referee Adam Neale to controversially rule double movement much to the disgust of the home fans.

Ipswich then got one last set of six when Fullback Darren Robinson took a Burleigh kick down in his own 20 which started a frenetic set of tackles with the Jets throwing the ball around & Burleigh struggling to hold on

But with Ipswich running it on the last tackle they finally worked an overlap & winger Steven West crossing in the corner as the siren was about to sound leaving West a kick from the sideline after the fulltime siren sounded to snatch a draw.

West struck the ball sweetly never looking like missing to keep the Jets undefeated while Burleigh picked up their first competition point of the season.
