Ireland No Match for England

England have scored the biggest win of the World Cup tournament so far, beating Ireland 42 points to 0 at Galpharm Stadium this afternoon.

The first 30 minutes of the game specifically was all England, where some quick hands and enterprising ball movement saw the Ireland defense all at sea.

England had their first try after only three minutes, when Cudjoe held the ball up and passed to Ryan Hall to cross in the corner. Hall was in again in the 12th minute, in a similar situation, taking advantage of an overlap.

Hall then picked up his third try in the 22nd minute, in the middle of a solid period of the game for England, where they scored four tries in 7 minutes.

Briscoe scored a double as well in the first half, back to back tries in the 17th and 18th minute. Brett Ferres also got in on the action, with a try in the 23rd minute.

Ireland were up against it in the first half, running into a strong breeze, and having only 30% of the possession.

The last ten minutes of the first half was better for Ireland, as they took advantage of getting some possession, but they were still unable to convert that possession into points, trailing 30-0 at half time.

The second half was better for Ireland, as they held England to the half time score until the 57th minute. Widdop made his mark on the game as he kicked to the right corner, and Briscoe batted the ball back infield to set Watkins up for a try.

England's only other try in the second half was scored in the 69th minute, as Rangi Chase won the race to a grubber and dived on the ball.

Ireland will take heart from their second half performance, but they never really looked like threatening the England tryline. England seemed to go into cruise control, only adding 12 points to their half time score, in the end running out winner 42 points to 0.
