Jack Stockwell to remain in Red V

The St George Illawarra Dragons announced on Friday that prop Jack Stockwell has agreed to terms on a contract extension that will see him remain at the Club until at least the end of 2017.

The Picton Magpies junior is a graduate of both the Dragons High Performance Unit and National Youth Competition team where he was named in the NYC “Team of the Year” for 2012.

Stockwell, 21, made his first-grade debut that same season against the South Sydney Rabbitohs and was additionally selected for both the Junior Kangaroos and NSW Blues U20 State of Origin teams.

Stockwell, 21, has made 23 first-grade appearances to date for the Dragons and is focused on adding to that tally with his long-term playing future now secured.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to continue my development with the Dragons,” said Stockwell.

“The decision was a fairly simple one to make in the end, having progressed through the Club’s various youth teams, and I look forward to being a part of the Club’s future.”

Dragons Head Coach Steve Price is pleased by the forward’s decision to remain at the Club.

“Jack is an exciting young player who works extremely hard and continues to improve with each training session and game,” said Price.

“Jack is very highly regarded by his team mates and shows maturity beyond his years.

“He always gives his all on the field and I see him competing hard for a regular place in the front-row.”

Dragons CEO Peter Doust was additionally forthcoming in his assessment of the player.

“We are all very pleased by Jack’s decision to extend his stay at the Club,” said Doust.

“Jack has been a player we identified a number of years ago who we see as a key part of our future.”
