Jets topple Clydesdales

This afternoon at Stadium Toowoomba a Graham Mackay inspired Ipswich Jets have caused the first upset of the Qld Cup with a 34-24 victory over the Toowoomba Clydesdales in the ABC TV match after leading 22-4 at half time. Ex international Mackay was scintillating with four tries only blotting his copy book with a ten minute stint in the sin bin right on the half time hooter for a professional foul while half back Ricky Bird also had an outstanding match & being awarded the ABC man of the match award. Toowoomba had the early running scoring the first try before the Bird & Mackay show took over with Mackay having a hat trick by the interval & completing his fourth with an intercept try midway through the second half. Jets coach Gillmeister was relieved with his first up win in the competition while Toowoomba coach Kevin Walters was left searching for answers. Ipswich next week play Burleigh Bears at Bendigo Bank Oval while things get no easier for Toowoomba having to travel to Dolphin Oval at Redcliffe to play last years premiers.
