Titans score last minute win over Cowboys
Young flyers Kevin Gordon and David Mead were up to their old tricks while Captain Scott Prince landed the knockout blow in the Jetstar Gold Coast Titans' thrilling 24-22 win over North Queensland in Cairns tonight.
Despite facing extremely wet conditions at Cairns' Barlow Park, Gordon and Mead scorched the turf with brilliant runaway tries while it took the experience of Prince to nail the match winning conversion from the sideline after the full-time siren.
Replacement centre Joseph Tomane scored a 79th minute try courtesy of some quick hands from five-eighth/backrower Greg Bird to level the scores at 22-all before Prince landed the match winning goal on the eve of his 31st birthday.
Prince also scored a try himself and kicked four goals for a personal haul of 12 points.
The win completed a fruitful pre-season campaign for the Jetstar Titans, which has included a dominant 42-4 win over South Sydney and tonight's tough win over the Cowboys.
Earlier in the night, Gordon submitted his entry for try of the year after swooping on a Cowboys error 30 metres out from his own line and soccering the ball four times to score an amazing try.
Fellow winger Mead, who was playing in his just his second match back from a serious foot injury, wasn't to be left out either - scoring a blistering 100 metre try after fielding a kick in his own in-goal area.
Prince said he hadn't planned on having to kick for the match after his side had led 18-10 with less than 20 minutes remaining before conceding two quick tries.
