Johns in doubt as Knights steal win in Cessnock

Andrew Johns is in doubt for the Newcastle Knight's opening clash with the Bulldogs after a hamstring injury prevented him from taking the field in tonight's NRL trial.

The news marred the win the Knights pipping the Cronulla Sharks 12-10.

Johns was named in the Knights side to take on the Sharks in his home town of Cessnock but was forced to withdraw in the morning prior to kick off.

After leading 10-0 at half time, the Sharks put the cue in the rack and allowed the Knights to steal victory with two tries in the dying stages of the match.

Despite the win, Knights coach Brian Smith Smith described the result as "embarrassing".
