Knee Injury
Sidelines Geyer for up to Two Months

Melbourne Storm winger Matt Geyer will be sidelined for six to eight weeks after suffering the ?first real? injury of his career in the Storm?s season opener against Newcastle yesterday.

Geyer will be unavailable for up to two months after rupturing the medial ligament in his left knee, but x-rays today have confirmed that the 28-year-old does not require surgery.

Back-rower Glen Turner is also set to miss a month of football after suffering a severe calf muscle injury in Sunday?s ten-point loss to the Knights.

The Kiwi forward will be sidelined for three to four weeks after ripping the muscle from the tendon in his left calf.

Despite facing a lengthy stint on the sidelines Geyer remains upbeat, having missed just seven matches through injury in over six years with the Storm.

?I?m really optimistic about the injury based on the fact that I?ve got nothing really to get down about because I?ve had such a good run with injuries,? Geyer said.

?I sort of count this as the first real injury throughout my career. While I was a bit down because it was the first game of the year, I know that being so early in the season means I have a lot of time to get back.

?At first I was a bit bummed but now I?m pretty much trying to take the positives out of the situation.?

Geyer has had few ailments over his 142-game career and faces his longest stint on the sidelines with this most recent injury.

The former NSW winger injured his shoulder in the Storm?s 1999 Grand Final win but returned in time for the first regular match of the 2000 season.

He broke his collarbone in the latter stages of 2002 and missed seven matches ? the only time he has been forced from the Storm side due to injury.

?I won?t need an operation but I?m still looking at missing between six to eight weeks,? Geyer explained.

?It?s kind of mixed news because I was expecting six to eight weeks anyway but if I required an operation it may well have been longer.

?I?ll be resting the leg this week and then do some swimming or bike riding next week with a view to perhaps starting some light running at the end of next week.?
