Lam set to retire

Wigan Warriors halfback Adrian Lam has confirmed that he will retire as a player, at the end of the current Tetley?s Rugby Super League season.

But the former Sydney Roosters and Papua New Guinea star has not ruled out staying in the game in some capacity.

Speaking at the Warriors? weekly press conference Lam said: "At the moment it looks like I will finish playing at the end of the season, this will be my last season playing.

"I would like to stay in the game in some capacity whether that?s back at home or over here. I haven?t chased anything hard yet, I am concentrating on this season, getting fully fit again."

And commenting on the decision Wigan Coach Denis Betts confirmed he was looking to Lam to provide direction to the Warriors efforts as the play-offs approach.

"His record and contribution to this club speaks volumes for him. To come back from the injuries he has had and performed as he has week in week out shows what a great player he is", said Betts.

He added: "Adrian is looking to pursue a different line in his life and it will be the start of something new for him, I hope he can help get us to a Grand Final and go out on a high."

Lam joined Wigan in December 2000 and has played his part in the Challenge Cup Final success in 2002 as well as helping the team to two Tetley?s Rugby Super League Grand Finals
