Lee Hookey calls it a day

South Sydney three-quarter Lee Hookey has announced his retirement at the tender age of 25, stating he has no desire to play any longer.

Hookey burst onto the scene in 1999 shoring up one of the flanks at the Rabbitohs alongside fellow teen sensation Craig Wing. Upon South's expulsion from the competition, he joined St George Illawarra for three years proving to be a capable first grader at centre, and at times, very exciting to watch.

Following this stint he returned to Souths for two years where he once again cemented himself in the starting line-up and provided the Bunnies with some consistency and experience in an otherwise young backline.

Hookey was a solid player who is sure to be missed by his team mates.

Elsewhere, betting agency Centrebet has installed the Rabbitohs as favourite for the 2005 wooden spoon.
