Melbourne Storm fined $120,000

The NRL today advised that Melbourne Storm has been fined $120,000 for salary cap breaches.

Melbourne Storm CEO Brian Waldron made the following comment in relation to the issue:

?As a new administration we believe it to be prudent that we ensure all dealings with our Salary Cap Management be in accordance with NRL rules and regulations," Waldron said.

"As a means of due process we sought the NRL?s clarification in late 2004 on a number of issues pertaining back to previous seasons. The penalty announced today is a consequence of the NRL?s findings on dealings relating back to season 2001.

"We appreciate and respect the NRL?s need to enforce the Salary Cap in the best interest of the competition. We are confident moving forward that our professional business practices and internal processes will ensure we are not subject to penalties of this nature in the future."
