Menzies Re-signs with Sea Eagles

Manly received a boost on Thursday with news that Steve Menzies and key forwards Anthony Watmough and Sam Harris have re-signed long-term contracts with the club.

Menzies, who recently celebrated his 250th first grade game for the Sea Eagles, has signed for two years while Watmough and City Origin forward Harris have extended their contracts for another three years.

Manly, seeking its third straight victory on Sunday at Brookvale Oval against Cronulla, wanted to secure the signatures of Watmough and Harris before the June 30 anti-tampering deadline.

Menzies told his manager Wayne Beavis that if he didn't negotiate a deal with Manly, the 30-year-old would finish his career in England.

"I'm delighted to play my entire career with Manly - I could never play against the maroon and white," the Harbord United junior said.

Menzies has played seven games for City, 15 games for NSW and 14 tests for Australia.

He is the fourth Sea Eagles player to make 250 first grade appearances, joining Alan Thompson, Des Hasler and Cliff Lyons in the club's annals.

The 20-year-old Watmough played all 24 matches for Manly last year and has scored two tries in nine appearances in 2004.

Rugby convert Harris, 24, is another promising back-rower who showed his potential when he was chosen for the City side to play Country in Gosford on May 7.
