Millward sacked by Wigan

Wigan has sacked Australian coach Ian Millward after a wretched start to the English Super League season.

The once all-conquering Lancashire club is currently bottom of the table after losing seven of its opening eight league matches. Millward only arrived at Wigan in May after an acrimonious departure from the Warriors' arch-rivals St Helens.

A statement from the club confirmed Millward's immediate departure from the club following a meeting of the board of directors and the team will be led in the short term by assistant coaches Stuart Wilkinson and Andrew Farrar.
