Monaghan joins Roosters

Canberra Raiders centre Joel Monaghan has turned his back on the Raiders to join former Raider Brett Finch at the Roosters on a deal for less money according to Roosters coach Ricky Stuart.

Stuart stated the Roosters could give Joel ?opportunities? at a ?good club? and that was the motivating factor for Monaghan to accept ?less money? to join the Sydney Roosters.

Monaghan was a Tuggeranong junior who was struggling with his fitness but has had a remarkable two seasons with the Raiders, gaining Country honours this year only to be ruled out through injury.

The loss of Monaghan is a massive blow to the Raiders who have also lost Ruben Wiki to the Warriors and Luke Davico to Wigan.

Canberra?s only signing for 2005 is veteran forward Jason Smith, 32, who is returning to the NRL after a four year stint with Hull.

The Roosters will no doubt be over the moon with the signing of Monaghan, who will join Amos Roberts and Brett Firman at Bondi Junction next year.
