Monday?s Expert - Round 13, 2006

Friday night rugby league kicked off with an extraordinary match at Kogarah. Played under lights in the torrential rain, the St George Illawarra Dragons got home over the Parramatta Eels by 8-1 after it was 0-0 for the first 70 minutes. A field goal shoot-out saw Saints leading by the soccer score of 2-1 before a try in the 80th minute finally put the match beyond doubt.

Saturday afternoon we travelled to Melbourne to see the Storm overcome the Sydney Roosters by 20-16 after the local led 12-4 at half time. Later the same day at Telstra Stadium, the Canterbury Bulldogs got on top of the Newcastle Knights, disposing of the Novocastrians by 38-22. Meanwhile, the Canberra Raiders got the points at home defeating a plucky Southjs Sydney Rabbitohs by 24-22. The Rabbitohs are getting close to posting their first win for 2006 but are still favourites for this year?s wooden spoon.

Sunday football took us to New Zealand where the Brisbane Broncos overcame a determined Warriors outfit by 23-18. The win sees the Broncos on top of the NRL ladder. Meanwhile the Manly Sea Eagles travelled to Penrith to defeat the Panthers by 29-22 and break a 12-year hoodoo.

Round 13 wrapped up at Telstra Stadium with the premiers Wests Tigers defeating last years runners-up North Queensland Cowboys by 24-14.
