Newton Cops 1 Match Ban

Great Britain hooker Terry Newton has been handed a one match suspension and fined ?500 after being found guilty of a reckless high tackle in the Think! Road Safety Third Test against Australia on Saturday evening.

The Wigan star was placed on report by referee Russell Smith in the second minute of heartbreaking 18-12 defeat, following a challenge on Kangaroos prop Robbie Kearns.

A disciplinary panel viewed video footage of the incident half an hour after the final whistle and it was decided that Newton had a case to answer.

A hearing was held immediately, in which Newton was found guilty and handed his punishment.

He will serve the suspension in Wigan's first competitive game of 2004.
