Off the Wall

After months of protracted negotiations the holders of the AFL television rights, Seven and Ten, last week reached an agreement with Foxtel/Austar that has resulted in more hyperbole than you would get from roomful of politicians.

The deal is being trumpeted as massive victory for AFL viewers in New South Wales and Queensland in particular. And the AFL not surprisingly is claiming the outcome as a key part of its challenge to the NRL, and perhaps other codes, in the two states.

We need therefore look more closely at what is a very complex telecast sharing arrangement and see what impact - if any - it will have on our game.
