Cronulla coach Ricky Stuart has given his players the week off training in a last-ditch attempt to salvage the club's season.

After slamming his team for their disappointing performance in losing to Brisbane on Sunday, Stuart has told his players to stay clear of Toyota Park until Friday to freshen up for next Monday's do-or-die battle with leaders Melbourne at Toyota Park.

The Sharks have lost their last six games and will likely need to win all five of their remaining matches to be in the hunt for a finals berth.

Last night all eyes were on local comeback kids Brett Hodgson and Benji Marshall but hooker Robbie Farah stole the show, scoring one try and contributing to a handful of others.

Hodgson returned from a facial injury to celebrate his 200th game but left the field midway through the second half with a cork just above his knee.

The Cowboys' miserable night was made worse when key playmaker and skipper Johnathan Thurston left the field with a shoulder injury. But coach Graham Murray later clarified the situation, saying it was a precaution once the result was obvious.

Two Cowboys were placed on report - Paul Bowman for lifting and Sione Faumuina a high tackle - both incidents involving Tigers prop Bryce Gibbs.

The win saw the Tigers move up to seventh on the ladder while the Cowboys dropped to eighth with their third straight loss after starting the weekend in the top four.
