Relieved Bulldogs skipper Andrew Ryan claims he would have let his team down had he not escaped a two-match ban last night.

Ryan has been cleared to play Friday's crucial match with Parramatta after beating a grade two careless high tackle charge at the NRL judiciary. The Dogs backrower was facing a two-match ban for his shot on Jason Ryles.

But despite admitting contact was made with the head, the club successfully argued Ryan only connected high because the Dragons prop was already falling in a low tackle from Jarrad Hickey.

The result is a major bonus for the Dogs, who will already be undermanned against the Eels because of the loss of international forwards Willie Mason and Mark O'Meley to injury.

It wasn
