Preview: Wakefield v
Warrington (Round 7)

Steve Ferres, who this week embarks on his second stint as Wakefield chief executive, is confident he can help bring back the good times to Belle Vue.

The Wildcats, rock bottom of the engage Super League table before Wigan?s latest defeat, have turned to the 52-year-old Ferres to revitalise their ailing fortunes.

Ferres was at the helm when Wakefield won promotion to Super League under coach Andy Kelly in 1998 and consolidated their place in the top flight in their first season.

But, apart from brief success in 2004 when they reached the play-offs, the Wildcats have invariably found themselves embroiled in a battle against relegation and Ferres acknowledges the size of his task.

?It?s a lot tougher now and more even as a competition,? he said. ?Wakefield are a bit behind where I thought they would be but it was always going to be difficult for them this season, as it is for anybody outside the super powers.

?Even Wigan have slipped. It shows how competitive the league has become.

?But I watched Wakefield against Bradford and Hull and they could and should have won both those games. They would have been halfway up the table now.?

Wolves coach Paul Cullen is threatening to ring the changes after accusing some of his players of lacking a fighting spirit in his side?s shock home defeat by Catalans Dragons.

?For some, it was simply a game too far, which is an unacceptable weakness,? he said.
