QLD Universities thump NSW counterparts

Queensland Universities have taken out the annual Universities clash at Suncorp Stadium thrashing the NSW Universities side 46-6.

The home side had all the running throughout the match and the Blues never looked likely with countless mistakes.

It took just one minute into the second half for Queensland to extend their second after Hooker Nathan Norford took the line on easily crashing over the try line.

Queensland winger Josh Damen was unable to convert the try but Queensland were still well ahead at 28-0.

Four minutes later, Queensland halfback Sam Foster put lock Jacob Ling through a yawning hole as he ran away to put the ball down under the posts.

Norford was able to convert the try taking his side to a handy 34-0 lead five minutes into the second half.

Queensland had all the running through the second half, much like the first, but New South Wales finally got their first points through interchange Moe Alhaje.

Former National Rugby League star Luke Covell was out of retirement and easily slotted the conversion but Queensland still had the 34-6 lead.

Queensland five eighth Connor Toia scored a 50 metre try, easily stepping past NSW fullback Mitchell Henderson to put the game beyond doubt.

Maroons forward Herschel Gideon had a very big game scoring two tries, with his second coming in the dying stages of the match.

Early on, Queensland looked as dangerous as they did in the first half getting out to a 20-0 lead at the break.

It was much of the same as NSW failed to stop any of the big Queensland forwards and speedy outside backs, especially after second rower Jono Miliszewski scored on the siren.

The first try came to centre Tom Murray who picked the ball up from a mistake simply sprinted away to get his side over in the 8th minute.

The Blues would never recover with Queensland being declared the 2014 Universities champions.
