MACKAY CUTTERS v TWEED HEADS
Virgin Australia Stadium, Saturday 3pm
Referee: Chris Butler
Head to Head: Tweed 4 Mackay 2 Drawn 2
Classy Tweed centre James Wood plays his 150th Cup match for the Seagulls. Wood rarely turns in a bad game and was last year rewarded with his first Queensland Residents jersey. He is likely to cross paths with giant Mackay centre Moses Pangai, one of the strike weapons in a strong Cutters outfit. If history is anything to go by, this clash could be decided in the final few minutes. Six of their eight meetings have been decided by a converted try or less, while the last two games finished in draws. Both sides are also coming off narrow victories - the Cutters beat Norths Devils 30-28 and the Tweed downed the Sunshine Coast 7-6 courtesy of a late Brad Davis field goal. Tweed coach Ben Anderson has called Cory Blair into the 17 for his first start of year, while Cutters coach Anthony Seibold has brought Lee Williams into the centres for his debut match. Matt Minto will also slot in at halfback for the injured Michael Morgan (foot).
The mystery punter says: Mackay by 4. The Cutters broke their duck at home last weekend and it may just be the springboard they need to beat a Tweed team that is yet to hit its stride.
