Queensland Cup - Round 11 -
Review

It took a patient display by last year?s grand finalists Ipswich to finally break the ABC Television hoodoo for home teams after 11 rounds of the Queensland Cup, when the Jets posted a 42-26 win over Easts at Bendigo Bank Oval. Tigers fullback Wade Liddell opened the scoring but a dart from dummy half by Ipswich hooker Jamie Tomlinson levelled the scores at 6 all after 15 minutes.

A Brendon Lindsay kick led to a good try to elusive halfback Ricky Bird before a bomb by Easts skipper Scott Thorburn saw Matt Lockyer cross and the scores were locked again at 12-12 after 25 minutes. Two quick tries however on half-time, Bird notching his double, saw the Jets go to the break with a handy 22-12 advantage. An early try to Shane Williams had the margin 28-12, but the Tigers fought back to trail only 28-22 thanks to tries to Liddell and Elton Seeto with twenty minutes remaining. Ipswich maintained their composure in the latter stages to run in a further three tries and secure a good win. Bird was named QRL man of the match for another impressive effort.

Toowoomba had a debut 22-18 win at Suncorp Stadium over Burleigh to stay in the top five on the ladder. Big Bears prop Shane O?Flanagan crossed for the first try after 35 minutes but Scott Prince crossed on half-time for the Clydesdales to level the scores. A try to five eight Brett Seymour soon after the break gave Toowoomba the lead and when Michael Coorey notched a try at the 75th minute mark Toowoomba had established a match winning advantage of 22-12 over the committed Burleigh outfit.

Tweed Heads 38-24 win over Souths Logan at Davies Park resulted in the Seagulls lone position on top of the table. Centre Josh Vaughan notched a double for Tweed Heads in the seven tries to 5 victory over a plucky Magpies outfit which made the visitors fight all the way for the competition points. Souths Logan led 14-6 late in the first half before three quick tries handed Tweed the lead 24-14 at the break. Lock forward Jeremy Smith was also prominent for the Seagulls scoring a try and slotting five goals.

Norths notched only their third win of the season 30-18 over Wests at Purtell Park. Centre Cooper Cronk and winger Derek Fletcher both scored doubles for the Devils with the Panthers lock forward Ben Willis matching this effort to notch two tries.

North Queensland proved too good for the Comets winning 52-10 at Moranbah. For the Young Guns centre Jason Barsley, five eight Michael Meigan, skipper Paul Dezolt and winger Neil Sweeney all crossed for doubles in the nine try romp. Sweeney added eight goals for a 24 points tally.

Premiers Redcliffe jumped to second spot with a 46-18 thrashing of Wynnum at Dolphin Oval. Redcliffe scored a total of eight tries over the disappointing Seagulls. Dolphins winger Aaron Barba and fullback Damien Richters both crossed for two tries with Richters also slotting 7 goals in his return to Queensland Cup after injury.
