Queensland Cup - Round 15 -
Preview

Premiers Redcliffe face the very real prospect of dropping four points out of the top five if they lose to Tweed Seagulls at Piggabeen in this weekend?s ABC televised match. Redcliffe?s loss to Ipswich last weekend in the grand final replay, put the club out of the top five for the first time in a decade with the Dolphins on 17 points, two behind Ipswich and Burleigh. Ipswich should pick up another two points against Wests at Purtell Park this Saturday afternoon and Burleigh are a good show of beating the North Queensland Young Guns at Dairy Farmers Stadium on Saturday night. So the pressure is on the Dolphins, particularly as they are travelling to hostile territory in New South Wales. In the other Saturday match the Central Comets host Easts Tigers at Browne Park with a 7.30pm kick-off. On Sunday there are two games with plenty of appeal both with 3pm kick-offs. Competition leaders, Wynnum Seagulls play Norths Devils at Bishop Park with Norths (10 points) looking for a win to keep alive their slim semi-final hopes. In the other match Souths Logan Magpies play Toowoomba Clydesdales at Davies Park and it is anyone?s guess what sort of side the Clydesdales turn out given the fact some of their players might have been required for duty with the Brisbane Broncos against the Sydney Roosters at Suncorp Stadium on the Friday night. Next weekend the annual City v Country match will be held at Barcaldine in western Queensland with both sides named during the week. As a result there will be just one Queensland Cup match ? between Norths and Souths Logan at Bishop Park and it will be shown on ABC television. On the schoolboy front the annual Confraternity Shield for Independent schools will be held on the Gold Coast starting this Sunday and finishing on July 4 while the under-15 national titles will be held in Canberra during the same period. And in tertiary rugby league the British students open and under-21 sides arrive in Cairns on Monday for the start of their Australian tour, which includes a Test match against Australia at Langlands Park on July 15. The tour opens with a match in Townsville this week. In England the annual ?War of the Roses? between Yorkshire and Lancashire ? the British version of State of Origin will be held at Odsal Stadium, Bradford on Wednesday night.
