Queensland Return To Traditional
Origin Strip

Queensland Rugby League have unvieled the new jersey that the team will wear into battle against New South Wales next season.

The design , realeased by Queensland Rugby League , is a return to the traditional Maroons jerseys of the 1980s and will go on sale to the public prior to the Christmas shopping season.

The white and silver stripes across the shoulders that have been the norm on the Queensland jersey for the past three seasons have been replaced with white stripes on the sleeves and gold piping on the chest and back.

The AAMI sponsorship logo has been subtly redesigned to work with the rest of the design.

QRL managing director Ross Livermore agreed it was a difficult balance finding the right mix between the traditional jersey favoured by the players and more fashionable designs preferred by fans.

"Every three years or so we change designs and we consult with the players about what they would like to see in the jersey," Livermore said.

"We also talk to Canterbury, who have the contract to supply our Origin gear, and they tell us what they think will sell retail-wise, as well as provide an attractive jersey for women.

"All the players ask for is a plain maroon jersey, no patterns, just plain. But then you have to look at how to dress that maroon up, because apparently it is a difficult fashion colour to sell.

"You can't design a replica jersey for sale to the public that is different from what the players wear. So you need to find that middle of the road."

Livermore said the QRL would keep the new design before going for another overhaul in three years.

"The players still want their name on the back of the jersey, so that is why the back of the jersey remains clean. And with silver numbers with white borders, and the players' names in white, the jersey picks up."
