The South Sydney Rabbitohs have held onto a 28-20 victory over the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium as they continue their charge to the finals.
A crowd of 29,571 witnessed the Friday Night contest to kick off Round 24, and they were entertained with some magical tries.
Dylan Farrell opened the Rabbitohs' points account as he found a yawning gap off a pass from John Sutton. Adam Reynolds remained perfect with the boot tonight, Souths ahead 6-0 after 15 minutes.
Mid-way through the first half, Dylan Walker managed to fight off Mitch Brown to claim the Rabbitohs second four-pointer. 20 minutes lapsed, Souths led 12-0.
Adam Reynolds taking every opportunity on offer as he extended his side's lead to 14-0 with a penalty goal in the 36th minute after a high tackle from Tony Williams.
On the stroke on half time, Sam Perrett finally posted the Bulldogs first points as Josh Reynolds rocketed a curving pass to his winger. After 40 minutes, South Sydney went into the break, 14-6 leaders.
There were injury concerns for a few players tonight, Bryson Goodwin (ankle) and Greg Inglis (knee) for South Sydney. Meanwhile for the Bulldogs, Frank Pritchard's night ended with a knee problem. However, before doing so, his charging run lead to Mitch Brown crossing for the Bulldogs second try.
The Rabbitohs replied quickly as star fullback, Greg Inglis broke free of the defence to link with Issac Luke who raced away from the chasers. Reynolds made the lead 10 points, 20-10, with his conversion.
Wests Tigers bound, Dene Halatau was awarded his four-pointer as he reached out of a tackle of Greg Inglis to plant the ball over the chalk. Hodkinson's radar on point, converting to close the gap to 4 points, 20-16.
Before Bryson Goodwin was assisted off the field with an injury, he finished off a brilliant South Sydney try which saw Luke Keary and Greg Inglis work together. A swinging kick from Adam Reynolds saw the lead back to 10 points, 26-16.
The Bulldogs faithful held hope of a late fight back as Mitch Brown posted his second try inside the final 10 minutes. However, it wasn't to be as Adam Reynolds secured the 28-20 victory with a penalty goal on the full time siren.
Next week, South Sydney travel to Allianz Stadium to face Wests Tigers in Round 25. While, the Bulldogs battle the Panthers at ANZ Stadium.
