Canberra has tabled coach Matthew Elliott a new one-year deal to prevent him from being poached by rival NRL club Newcastle.
Elliott, who is off contract after 2006, has been approached by the Knights to replace Michael Hagan from next year, but says his preference is to remain in the nation's capital. Raiders CEO Simon Hawkins says he is confident of a deal being struck with Elliott soon.
