REDCLIFFE DOLPHINS 42 defeat SOUTHS LOGAN MAGPIES 10
Anthony Griffin made no bones about where his Redcliffe team had improved after it recovered from a 50-point hiding by Burleigh to down Souths Logan 42-10 at Davies Park on Sunday.
?When you get beaten like that it?s generally all about attitude,? he said, referring to a 56-6 loss to the Bears in Round 13.
?No mistake, Burleigh is a good side, but it isn?t that much better.
?To be honest we didn?t speak a lot about Souths Logan in the lead-up to the game. We focused on rectifying our own form.?
The trick seemed to work as the Dolphins delivered eight tries in atrocious conditions. At the same time they only allowed Souths Logan two tries from kicks, with the closest margin after halftime 22-10.
Griffin was mindful that the Magpies had won their last match at Davies Park in an upset over Norths and factored in that the slippery ball may well play into their hands.
But with forwards Adam Starr (pictured) and Danny Burke grinding out the hard yards around the centre, the red-and-whites staved off any threat of a third straight defeat.
It was a happy return for Griffin to the ground where he coached last season and also for Nick Emmett, a former Magpie who scored a handy try in his comeback from a broken finger.
Emmett replaced Matt Anderton from the team announced earlier in the week, while Liam Georgetown came onto the wing for Chris Giumelli.
A try and five goals allowed Greg Bourke to break 100 points for the season after he was left stranded on 98 the week before. Bourke is only 14 career points away from John Wilshere (896pts), ranked third all-time in the Queensland Cup.
Respectively on the ladder, Redcliffe and Souths Logan are placed fourth and second-last. The clubs will provide a combined five players for City in next Saturday?s extravaganza against Country at Kougari Oval.
After that the Dolphins will play Wynnum away on July 2, with Souths Logan also hitting the road to face North Queensland in Townsville the same day.
REDCLIFFE 42 (Greg Bourke, Jamie Russo, Liam Georgetown, Grant Flugge, Nick Walker, Adam Starr, Nick Emmet, Danny Green tries; Greg Bourke 5 goals)
SOUTHS LOGAN 10 (Craig Chapman, Nathaniel Bowman tries; Craig Chapman goal)
