Redcliffe Dolphins News

A tough day awaited the Dolphins at Langlands Park last weekend with only the Colts walking away with 2 competition points.

A good hit back by the Colts with a 42-10 victory over the Tigers after suffering a heavy defeat the previous week. The Dolphins produced some entertaining tries that were complemented by committed defence. 17 year old Matt Gillett found the try line on 3 occasions while Mitchell Simpson continued his impressive form with 1 try and 5 goals however the LEADING EDGE Man of the Match went to Dominic Fallini for his tireless performance. This weekend presents a good opportunity for the side to test themselves against one of the competition frontrunners in Burleigh.

The A Grade outfit put in a below par performance in their 18-16 loss to East?s with the result seeing the Dolphins slip from equal first to fourth. Credit should go to the team for showing the determination to almost steal a win with the last play of the game although realistically it was a game the side didn?t deserve to get away with. Replacement Chris Jelich received the HOGS BREATH CAFE Man of the Match Award in his first game of the year after an off-season knee reconstruction, ?Sponge? deserves a wrap for his determination after he suffered a couple of set backs in his rehabilitation and his performance on the weekend was typical of his blood & guts approach to footy. This weekend the side gets the weekend off due to Burleigh supplying 11 players into the Southern Divisional team, the game will be played June 26th 3.00pm at Bishop Park.

The Premier Grade game was one of those ones that got away. After dominating East?s for the opening 60 minutes the Dolphins were unable to deliver the knock-out blow and on the back of a glut of possession and a heavy penalty count the Tigers stormed home to run out 28-22 winners. The Dolphins definitely lifted their foot off the pedal although a 6-1 penalty count against the side in the second stanza didn?t make the task of holding off the fast finishing home side any easier and Coach Anthony Griffin will quite rightly be seeking out referees boss Eddie Ward to discuss what his side can do to avoid a repeat of this as the Tigers game is one of a number of games this season that has seen the Dolphins finish a game heavily in the red in the penalty count. This weekend will be a good test for the Dolphins with runaway competition leaders Burleigh traveling to Dolphin Oval for a 3.00pm appointment, the game is sure to draw a large crowd and promises to produce some quality football.

Congratulations to Liam Georgetown, Iremia Filipo and Chris Fox who secured their spots in the Divisional side and will contest the divisional carnival this weekend. Congratulations to the boys for making the side and good luck in the selection room for the QLD Rangers.

Luckless Liam Tallon fractured 3 ribs in last weekend?s game and will be out for a number of weeks, Joe Parekura injured an ankle in the Colts while the remainder of the players appeared to come through with no major problems.

This weekend will also see the return of Trent Leis to Dolphin Oval in opposition colours for the first time. The Leis family have a strong tradition with the Dolphins with Trent's father Peter a club legend holding the record for the amount of first grade games played for the Club 261. Rumour has it Peter will be sitting in the can bar with his back to game not wanting to see either team lose. Maybe he tips a draw.
