The three games at Dolphin Oval last weekend saw the side that got out of the gates early go on and win the match. Norths were successful in Colts and A Grade while the Dolphins Premier Grade prevailed over the Devils.
The Colts game started out slowly for the Dolphins with their fancied rivals scooting to an 18 nil score line, the young Dolphins found some composure and through the middle section of the game looked to have the upper hand clawing the margin back to 18-16. A couple of missed opportunities which would have seen the side wrestle the lead from Norths proved crucial with the visitors counter punching racing away to a 42-22 win. The Dolphins weren?t too far of the mark here and will learn some lessons from this game which will hold them in good stead for the upcoming weeks. Joel Romelo, Sam Schull, Tim Benson and Foisa Peni all stood tall with Joel the deserved winner of the LEADING EDGE SPORTS Man of the Match Award.
The A Grade suffered a disappointing loss to the lowly placed Norths with a well below par performance. Enthusiasm counts for a lot in our game and unfortunately the Dolphins fell short in this area while the Devils jumped out of the gates with all guns blazing shooting to a 16 nil lead. The Dolphins got it back to 16-10 at half time however after the break the trend of the game continued with the visitors running out comfortable 40 points to 22 winners. Despite the loss there were a number of stand out performers for the Dolphins with Chris Giumelli, Chris Jelich, Dom Fallini and Scott Gillis performing well with Jelich getting the nod for the HOGS BREATH CAF? Man of the Match. Today is an important game for the side with Wynnum in fifth place just one point ahead of the Dolphins on the competition ladder.
The Premier Grade started the game in blazing form running up 22 unanswered points in the opening 20 minutes before a bit of tit for tat scoring gave the game its 36-12 half time score line. The start of the second half saw the Dolphins squander a couple of scoring opportunities which opened the door for Norths to stage a comeback. Three quick tries closed the margin to 10 points however the Dolphins rose to the challenge and were able to steady the ship and ran out 48 points to 30 winners with defense not featuring in the games highlights. Adam Starr returned from QLD duties with a tireless effort to get the KEYSTAR AUTOWORLD Players Player Award while Danny Burke was voted the SEARLES GARDEN PRODUCTS Player of the Match. Nick Walker and Danny Green continued their impressive comebacks with solid performances and won?t be too far away from hitting their straps.
The Dolphins wish Alwyn Simpson a speedy recovery after he was hit by a car on his moped. Fortunately no serious damage was done however some leg injuries look to have ended his season prematurely.
Congratulations to Troy Lindsay, Adam Starr, Ryan Cullen and Mick Roberts who acquitted themselves well in the QLD Residents side. Unfortunately the side was beaten 28-20 by NSW however from all accounts it was a good contest.
