Redcliffe Dolphins News

Two wins in the lower grades at Tugun and a loss at Townsville for Premier Grade were the outcomes of last weekend?s fixtures for the Dolphins.

The Colts had their first runaway win of the year when they defeated the Tugun outfit 64 points to 12 at the Betty Diamond Complex. Although the Tugun boys haven?t been travelling all that well coach Waverley Stanley was still reasonably happy with his sides approach to this game and is confident the team will grow a little from this result. Sam Maniat and Mick Pares both picked up trebles in the game and Mick was awarded the LEADING EDGE SPORTS Man of the Match for his dominant display.

Although the score was nothing like the Colts the A Grade came up with an 18-16 win just the same. The game was reportedly not a great spectacle however it was pleasing for Coach Iggy Graham that his side found a way to win. Liam Georgetown, Mark Christensen and Luke Bloomfield all crossed over for 4 pointers in the win with Bloomfield kicking 2 goals and Gerard Parle 1. Mark Christensen played himself into some form and was judged the HOGS BREATH CAFE Man of the Match for a good performance, Mark receives a dinner for 2.

The Premier Grade found the trip North to Townsville tough going and suffered at the hands of a pumped up Young Guns going down 34-16. The Dolphins were out enthused on the night and as a result every time the game became an arm wrestle unfortunately it was the Dolphins who would produce a mistake handing control of the match over to the youthful northerners. The side understands the competition is now at a level that requires your best efforts each week and were disappointed in the performance on the night. Matt Mapes is continuing to impress and played out the full 80 mins contributing with strong defence and some clever off-loads with the ball, Matt received the KEYSTAR MOTORS Players Player Award. Captain Shane Perry was another who put in a wholehearted performance, Shane picks up his first SEARLES GARDEN PRODUCTS Player of the Match as a result.

On the injury front Dan Jones and Duane O?Grady made successful returns last weekend in A Grade while Matt Anderton?s rib injury continues to cause concern. Dominic Fallini returns to the Colts this weekend from a shoulder re-construction which is great to see as Dom has worked extremely hard on his rehabilitation, Maddison Murphy is also very close to returning after off season shoulder surgery as well, Clint Frazer?s groin injury requires tests and is a concern.
