Redcliffe Dolphins News

The Dolphins prevailed in three Grades last weekend over the Ipswich Jets on a windy Dolphin Oval afternoon.

The Colts managed a pleasing 36-20 victory over the Jets although the margin was flattered by the sharp shooting of impressive fullback Mitchell Simpson who didn?t miss a conversion while the Jets were unable to convert any of their 5 tries. The Jets fought back late in the game to close the margin and their position on the ladder belies their ability. Dolphins Coach Waverley Stanley was pleased his side completed consecutive wins and will be keen to continue momentum against Runaway Bay today. Halfback Wayne Bond was the LEADING EDGE SPORTS Man of the Match and will hopefully gain confidence from this performance, the Club is eager to see Wayne firing on all cylinders and pressing his claims for QLD Wizard Cup selection.

The A Grade side put in a dominant performance and proved to strong for the Jets winning 36 points to 6. The side?s determination in defence was one of many pleasing aspects of the game in addition to some well constructed tries. There were quite a number of quality performances with Duane O?Grady, Luke Bloomfield and Liam Georgetown amongst those to catch the eye however Mark Christensen was the stand-out and picked up his second consecutive HOGS BREATH CAFE Man of the Match.

The Dolphins Premier Grade ran out winners 42-20 over the Jets after going to half time leading 30 points to 4. Coach Anthony Griffin although pleased with the win and particularly the first half is asking for more of a killer instinct from his chargers once they have a side on the ropes after a marked drop in intensity from the side after the break. Greg Bourke was outstanding with the boot in difficult conditions converting all 7 tries including some difficult assignments from the sideline. Shane Perry was named SEARLES GARDEN PRODUCTS Player of the Match for an intelligent display while fullback Ryan Cullen received the KEYSTAR Players Player vote and is finding some form after joining the Dolphins in the off-season.

Matt Anderton and Maddison Murphy are available this weekend with Matt overcoming a rib injury and Maddo back from a shoulder reconstruction. Dominic Fallini made a successful return in the Colts last weekend and will take a couple of weeks to get his bearings but will be a good addition to the side when his fitness returns.

This weekend sees Colts and A Grade travelling to Runaway Bays Bycroft Oval to tackle the Seagulls on Saturday night with the Colts kicking off at 5.30pm and A Grade 7.00pm. The Colts will be keen to continue their winning run against the Bay side that unfortunately had to forfeit at half-time last weekend while the A Grade are expecting a tough hit-out against a side that has given a good account themselves this year despite not yet registering a win.

Tough assignment for the Premier Grade on Sunday when they travel over the border to confront Tweed Heads at the Piggabeen Complex, Tweed have once again proved a surprise packet in the competition. The Dolphins will approach this game with a great deal of respect and are looking forward to what should be a good game of footy.
