MATCH REPORT ? SOUTH SYDNEY

After a first round loss to Canterbury Bulldogs the boys were keen to start the game in the right fashion and and took an early lead thanks to tries to Robert Talai and Captain Eddie Paea.

Eddie Paea was in the thick of the action once again and put Fonua Leao away and extended our lead. Mitchell Edwards picked up where he left off the week before and crossed the line taking our score to 24 points ? nil.

Michael Cummins showed plenty of speed and was solid in defence through out the whole game, while captain Eddie Paea lead from the front and was at his creative best, Fonua Leao worked hard all game whilst Trent Trotter never stopped trying. Mitchell Edwards was clever once again out of dummy half. The side played together as a team and put in an outstanding effort and ran away winners to the tune of 48 points ? 10.

Like the Harold Matthews Cup team the S G Ball side went out to prove a point over impressive first round victors Western Suburbs. We did not get off to a great start and gave away two successive penalties which put us under pressure for the start of the game. Great defence and deterimination denied Wests any points as the boys held the Magpies out.

Beau Champion opened up the scoring after 20 minutes when he sliced through the Wests Defence. He converted his own try and we took a 6 points ? nil lead. Adam El-Zbaidieh as he so often does came up with a great run to put the team in a great attacking position and with the line wide open we dropped the ball. Two tries in as many minutes by Richard Williams saw the boys race to a 14 points ? nil lead and go into the break looking like a football team on a mission.

Richard Williams looked as though he never left the field for the half time break and crossed the line after only 4 minutes of the second half to extend our lead by 20 points ? nil. Troy Seelin finished off the scoring for the team when he finished off a great team try.

The team showed what they are capable of doing when they are switched on and ended up running out 24 points ? nil winners. Special mention must go to Eddie Paea and Max Kerr who backed up from our Harold Matthews Cup game to play in the S G Ball team. The team also welcomed a new face to the squad during the week Albert Tuara. Coach John Amatto will have to have his team focused when we play host to Penrith Panthers in today?s game who always provide tough opposition.
