Round 20 Team of the Week

This week of footy has produced some tough decisions for the selectors, who have had to decide between as many as six halfbacks and seven props. We?ve included a number of players in the hard-done-by?s category and alongside an almighty bench, proving that the Round 20 League Unlimited Team of the Week would cut an imposing figure to any opponent, including a Spanish Armada.

Fullback ? M Bowen (Cowboys) A sizzling display from Matty at the weekend, including a 95m effort to score. He?s been a little down of late but he got back into form showing why he?s one of the game?s most lethal players.

Wing ? D Fitzhenry (Tigers) Whilst Fitzy didn?t cross the stripe he helped out in a few tries and made a couple of good runs. He?s an underrated winger and misses most of the wraps, but we thought he played well enough to deserve a start this week.

Centre ? M Gasnier (Dragons) Gaz was dynamic at the weekend, regularly getting the Saints out of their own half with some good runs and nimble footwork. The try he set up for Best culminated in an incredible pass the likes of which are rarely seen.

Centre ? J Hannay (Cowboys) Another Cowboy who?s been a little out of sorts recently, but shot back to form with a double in the try department and seven goals for a 22-point haul against the hapless Panthers.

Wing ? T Salkeld (Knights) Salkeld has only played a handful of games but is beginning to find his feet in first grade and looks to be a good prospect. He scored a try, narrowly missed another and has good finishing skills.

Five-eighth ? N Fien (Warriors) Played well again but looks frustrated at times. Fien is combining well with halfback Stacey Jones right when they need to and fingers crossed they make the semi?s this season.

Halfback ? B Sherwin (Bulldogs) Easily the most contentious decision of the week, but Shifty gets the nod ahead of a host of other halfbacks that are running around right now. He set up a good try, scored the match-winner himself and played hard against the table-topping Broncos.

Lock ? T Grimaldi (Bulldogs) This sturdy lock-forward made his way around the park with a minimum of fuss, tackling and taking the ball up when needed. He pitched in with a try and unfortunately got involved in a bit of a tangle with Parker and Hodges.

Second-row ? N Hindmarsh (Eels) Once again Hindy was the backbone of the Eels forward pack. With his customary plumbers-crack showing, the bulky brute made plenty of strong charges, tackled hard and cleaned up around the ruck.

Second-row ? C Newton (Knights) Clint was packing in against his second-row mate at the weekend, now they join arms here in the LU Team of the Week. Newton had several spurts at the line making a few good breaks and keeping the defensive line tight all night.

Prop ? L Bailey (Dragons) Outstanding stuff by Bull against Cronulla. He took it up all day long, tackles like there was no tomorrow and pitched in with the first try of the game. Five-star effort Mr Bailey but you?ll be getting no early showers here?

Hooker ? R Farah (Tigers) They?re calling him the best since Elias, and whilst he?s still got a bit to make up on Benny, Farah is certainly playing some terrific football. He scored three great tries at the weekend and it?s not everyday you keep Danny Buderus out of the LU Team of the Week.

Prop ? R Wiki (Warriors) Another tough and uncompromising display from Ruben who?s back into some great form. The Warriors are charging right now and it?s no surprise to see him leading the pack again.

A tough bench here with Asotasi, Skandalis and Civoniceva all there to belt their opponents into submission. Withers will add some spark to the attack and plenty of starch in defense.

Interchange: R Asotasi (Bulldogs), J Skandalis (Tigers), P Civoniceva (Broncos), L Withers (Raiders)

These fella?s below all played hard and featured in our live updater?s points, but unfortunately we can?t pick everyone. Buderus was outshone by Farah and Sherwin got the points against Jones (who was exceptional), Orford, Johns and Firman in his first game for a new club. The other forwards were strong and deserve a wrap too.

Hard-done-by?s: D Buderus (Knights), S Jones (Warriors), M Orford (Storm), B Firman (Cowboys), A Johns (Knights), B Slater (Storm), J Ryles (Dragons), R Kearns (Storm).
