Round Seven: Sharks Den POTY and
SDS Wrap Up
Parramatta were the better team on the day, but that didn't stop Cronulla from surging home and stealing the two points at the end of the evening. After a weekend of deliberation, here is how the Player of the Year points and Sharks Den Survivor voting panned out for round seven.
Player of the Year Points
3. Phil Bailey - Quiet second half, but kept Cronulla in the game in the first. Several trysaving tackles, and did all the damage in attack. Top effort.
2. Jason Stevens - Laid the platform. Can't remember a poor hitup from him, and carried defenders back every time he had the ball, averaging almost ten metres per run. Quick play the balls too. Looking in great form.
1. Brett Kimmorley - Make no mistake, his kicking was poor, but ultimately it was his ability to lift when the pressure was on that allowed us to win. Put on a pinpoint kick for Daniel Dumas and set up those early tries for Bailey and Rieck in the first half.
David Peachey still holds a slim lead, two points in front of both Jason Stevens and Brett Kimmorley. Quite clearly, the senior players are lifting this season, something they failed to do each week in 2003.
Sharks Den Survivor
After a single moment of madness, Chris Beattie has been sent packing from Survivor after round seven. Beattie, playing in reserve grade, stupidly headbutted a Parramatta player midway through the game and was promptly sent off by the referee. As a result, the Eels overcame a massive deficit to win in the dying seconds.
Beattie scored almost half of all of the votes this week, beating Dean Bosnich who managed 11%. Russell Aitken - quickly making a name for himself as the best player in the Cronulla lower grades - peculiarly picked up 10% of the votes, indicating that perhaps a number of voters simply chose alphabetically from the Premier League players.
