The Brisbane Broncos have crashed to their first defeat of 2002 at the hands of the St George Illawarra Dragons. Saints scoring five tries to four.

In one of the year's most exciting matches, the home side have overcome a Broncos' outfit who had a number of personnel backing up from last Wednesday's night State of Origin. Saints' winger, Shane Loloata scoring a hat trick of tries.

Dragons' five eighth and captain, Trent Barrett, was forced from the field at half time and didn't take part in the final forty minutes.
