Samoa qualify for Four Nations

Toa Samoa have qualified for the 2014 Four Nations Tournament as they defeated Fiji Bati 32-16 at Sportingbet Stadium in front of a passionate crowd of 9,063.

Cronulla Sharks half, Penani Manumalealii starred for Samoa as he ran in three tries (12th, 38th and 44th minute) with fancy footwork fooling the Fijian defence.

Fiji controlled the first half with tries to Kevin Naiqama (16th minute), James Storer (26th) and Lote Tuqiri (29th minute). To everyone's surprise, dual International, Lote Tuqiri was given the kicking duties for Fiji, slotting 2/3 attempts in his return to the kicking tee.

Despite trailing in the penalty count, Fiji lead Samoa 16-12 at the break after a thrilling forty minutes.

The second half didn't pan out for Fiji as they lost their play maker in Aaron Groom in the 43rd minute to injury as he failed a concussion test.

Penani Manumalealii opened the scoring in the second half after as he claimed his hat trick with his footwork taking Samoa to 18-16.

Korbin Sims could be missing from the Newcastle Knights pack due to a shoulder charge on hat-trick hero Manumalealii in the 50th minute. Krisnan Inu extended Samoa's lead to 4 points, 20-16.

The run of play all with Samoa as poor ball handling and ill-discipline cost Fiji opportunities. Samoa closed out the game with tries to Carlos Tuimavave (55th minute) and Daniel Vidot (63rd minute).

The Cronulla Sharks could be without Sam Tagatese in the following rounds of the NRL as he was sent off in the 77th minute as he head butt Kane Evans.

Toa Samoa proved too good for Fiji with their NRL experience enough to see them advance into the 2014 Four Nations. Samoa are set to clash with England in their first fixture on October 25th at Suncorp Stadium.
