School trophy named after Renouf

Former Brisbane Broncos players are backing a new junior rugby league competition for schools in south east Queensland.

With $15,000 donated by the state government, rugby league schools from Wide Bay to the New South Wales border will play-off for the Steve Renouf Shield, named after Brisbane's all-time leading try scorer.

Queensland Health Minister Wendy Edmond announced the initiative today saying Renouf was a inspiration to all kids having overcome diabetes to reach the top in rugby league.
