Seagulls fly high against Tigers

The Wynnum-Manly Seagulls have ended the finals aspirations of the Easts Tigers with a comprehensive 42-20 victory in front of a vocal Langlands Park crowd on Sunday afternoon.

The game was in the balance at 12-10 to the visitors at halftime but Wynnum blew the shell-shocked Tigers off the park in the second stanza, courtesy of four tries within a fifteen minute period.

With the scoreboard reading 36-10 to the Seagulls in the 55th minute, the home team were facing a thrashing of epic proportions. However, to their credit, Easts dug deep to post two tries at the backend of the game, giving the fulltime scoreline some respectability.

Despite the final result, the Tigers started the contest on the front foot thanks to reliable winger Kev Stephensen, who finished a long range try under the posts after making the initial break down the left flank.

But Wynnum hit back with tries to creative centre Chris McQueen and prop Matt Seamark to lead 12-6 after 22 minutes.

The Tigers reduced the deficit when hulking forward Charlie Tonga provided the short pass for a Wallace Solomona four-pointer. Matt Lockyer
