Sharks end streak and beat Eels in extra time

Match Summary The Sharks have broken their seven match losing streak tonight with a stunning 25-24 victory over the Eels at an animated Parramatta Stadium.

The deciding point came in the fifth minute of golden point extra time by way of Cronulla halfback Brett Seymour who struck the ball well from 25 metres out to register the desired field goal.

Both sides had earlier tried to snatch the win via the one point - but their numerous shots were to no avail, as the ball managed to either fall short or drift sideways. For the Eels, halfback Tim Smith was the go to man for their unsuccessful attempts, while Cronulla seemed to nearly exhaust all options by means of using plenty of kickers - until Seymour finally proved the difference.

Cronulla could have rapped up the game late in the second half but were unable to due to a Mark Riddell double. In the 60th minute, Riddell barrelled over through a number of Sharks defenders close to the line to score - placing his side back into the encounter.

But a penalty goal in the 65th minute - due to a rake by Feleti Mateo in the ruck - saw Luke Covell slot one over in perfect range to further the Sharks lead.

In the 73rd minute though, a grubber kick from Brett Finch inside the Sharks red zone snuck through the Cronulla line to find Riddell who beat three Sharks defenders to the ball to bag his double. Krisnan Inu converted on both occasions to keep his side within winning range. But it was not to be for the premiership contenders who succumbed to a hungry Cronulla outfit.

Parramatta looked dangerous in patches but were unable to capitalise - due to silly errors - off plenty of attacking opportunities that possibly would have sunk the Sharks. But to Cronulla
