Sharks win dead-rubber against Raiders

The Cronulla Sharks have defeated the Canberra Raiders by 22-12 tonight in a dour contest.

With nothing to gain for either side the game failed to reach any great heights as both clubs went through the motions for the duration.

But the Sharks did seem hungrier and with coach Ricky Stuart being his animated self from the sideline they went on to record victory.

The star of the show was Luke Covell who scored two tries and three goals for a personal tally of 14 points. Todd Carney and Paul Gallen also had strong games.

The Raiders opened the scoring through prop Scott Logan in the 5th minute, who crashed over from close range in the 5th minute.

The Sharks responded shortly after with tries to Mitch Brown and Covell, who also added a penalty goal, to take a 12-6 lead into the halftime break.

Covell scored his second try for the game after Canberra utility back David Howell spilled a bomb and gifted the Kiwi winger a try ten minutes after the break.

15 minutes later the Sharks scored the best try of the match with a blind side play involving Gallen, Greg Bird, Ben Pomeroy and finished off by Isaac De Gois. They exploited Howell
