The annual City v Country Origin match kicked the week off on Friday night and produced almost as much controversy as it did quality football. The game was actually of a high standard, however it also produced at least four serious injuries to some star players. Numerous players involved on Friday night did not back up for their club sides over the weekend and that meant a busy time for eveyone trying to keep up to date with the most recent team information.

The teams most affected were Newcastle and St George, and hence we saw significant money all weekend for both the Bulldogs and Manly. Manly shortened from $3.50 to win the game into $2.75 at kickoff. The Bulldogs shortened from $1.53 into an amazing $1.30. The biggest 'go' of the year so far. That is from a line of 5.5 start to the Knights out to a very large 10.5.

On Saturday, the Melbourne Storm were well supported despite both Matt Orford and Scott Hill backing up after Friday's night match. We saw significant money come for the Storm -9.5 at $1.90, which turned out to be a great result for SportOdds, when Cronulla kept their up and down form going with an upset win at Olympic Park. The Roosters v Tigers match was fairly low key with most of the money being for the Tigers with the big 16.5 start. The Roosters were way too good however. The Warriors v Cowboys game was the lowest key betting match of the season so far, given that it wasn't televised live anywhere in the country, and most punters considered the $1.90 that was available for both sides just too hard to pick.

Canberra were well backed to beat an understrength Brisbane on Sunday with one bet of $20,000 at their opening quote of $1.70. All of the other large bets for the round came for Melbourne to beat Cronulla by 10 or more with one bet of $30,000 and another of $25,000. With all of the injury concerns that we have had to deal with this week, we can only hope that next week, it all starts to settle down a little bit. Therefore, giving everyone wanting to have a bet, confidence that the players who are named on Tuesday actually play on Saturday or Sunday. Good Luck everyone.
