Stevens likely to miss round one
game for Sharks

Cronulla prop Jason Stevens will miss the opening to the NRL premiership after damaging medial ligaments in his knee.

Stevens was the worst casualty on the opening weekend of official NRL trials, hobbling from the field as the Sharks lost 18-10 to North Queensland in Mackay.

The Cowboys didn't escape unscathed either with forward Luke O'Donnell suffering a suspected broken bone in his hand.

However, North Queensland officials are optimistic O'Donnell, who had x-rays on Sunday, will be fit for the club's premiership opener against Brisbane in three weeks.

"We don't think it's anything too bad," Cowboys football manager Peter Parr said.

"We're hopeful he will be right for the first round. We think it's only a small bone in his hand.

"But obviously he's in some doubt."

O'Donnell will miss the Cowboys' final trial against Melbourne on Friday night in Cairns.

However, winger Ty Williams will return from a shoulder reconstruction.

"We'll gain one and lose one," Parr said.

South Sydney prop Scott Geddes finally survived a Charity Shield - but only just.

Geddes, seriously injured in the previous two Charity Shields, corked his thigh during the Rabbitohs' 30-6 victory over St George Illawarra at Aussie Stadium on Saturday.

He's expected to be fit for the club's final trial against the Bulldogs in Perth on Friday night.

The Dragons only injury concern was centre Matt Cooper, who broke his nose in the opening minutes of last night's match.

Cooper could play in the club's final trial against Manly on Saturday night.

Parramatta pair Ashley Graham and Marcus Perenara should be fit for the start of the premiership despite suffering injuries in the club's win over the Sydney Roosters on Saturday.

Graham suffered a recurrence of a leg injury and Perenara strained his ankle.

The Wests Tigers emerged with a clean slate after their loss to Manly.

Winger Pat Richards received a knock to the eye but should be fit for the club's final trial against Canberra at Campbelltown Stadium on March 5.

Melbourne duo Cooper Cronk and Scott Hill suffered minor injuries in their win over Brisbane on Saturday.

Cronk copped a knock on his arm while Hill received stitches over his eye.

Both will be available for Friday night's game against the Cowboys.
