Swain hit for six

Penrith forward Luke Swain has been the only casualty out of the club?s 22-6 win over the Sydney Roosters at Telstra Stadium last Friday night.

It?s been confirmed that Swain suffered a fractured jaw during the match and will be out of action for at least the next six weeks.

The first half incident happened when Swain was hit in a big tackle ? his teeth flying out of his mouth. Channel Nine, who televised the game, opted not to show the incident as it was declared as too gruesome for viewers.

Swain wanted to return to the field in the second half but officials phoned a dentist who confirmed that the 2003 Grand Final squad member shouldn?t return to the field.

Meanwhile, Panthers skipper Craig Gower says the first half against the Roosters, in which the Panthers scored three tries to zero, was the best he has ever been involved in with the club.

"I don't think we've ever played a better 40 minutes than that first half before they got a bit of a roll on ... but defensively I thought we were pretty sound,? Gower said at the post-match press conference.

?I tend to agree with Craig," coach John Lang said. "I think in that first 40 minutes were tremendous in both attack and defence and we could have easily had a couple more tries ... it was certainly a very good defensive effort.

"I thought it was a really good team effort and I'd like to pay a special tribute to Paul Whatuira. It was very difficult for him. He was in the Grand Final side, he got put on the bench this week and played about 50 minutes at lock I think and he just tackled everything that moved.?

The Panthers return to their traditional home of Penrith Football Stadium next weekend for their round five clash with the Melbourne Storm, who today suffered a loss to an in-form Brisbane outfit.
