Tallis retires from rep footy, out
of Roo tour

Queensland and Brisbane Broncos captain Gorden Tallis has announced his immediate retirement from representative rugby league.

Tallis had been expected to lead Australia on the Kangaroos tour to New Zealand, France and Great Britain next month but he says his 30-year-old body can no longer handle the rigours of both club and representative football.

Tallis consulted coach Wayne Bennett and family before announcing the decision today.

With regular Australian captain Andrew Johns sidelined by injury, Tallis' Brisbane teammate Darren Lockyer is now tipped to lead the Kangaroos tour.
