Tate may need surgery, Carroll &
Berrigan out too

Broncos three-quarter Brent Tate may have to undergo surgery depending on the extent of the injury to his shoulder. He has suffered a recurrence of a nerve complaint which hampered his 2004 season and will discuss the results of scans with a specialist, before deciding whether surgery will be required.

Meanwhile, Brisbane have been forced to make a few changes to its side to play Manly in tomorrow night's blockbuster at Suncorp Stadium. Test forward Tonie Carroll is out with a rib injury while hooker Barry Berrigan has withdrawn as well, also with a shoulder problem.

Coach Wayne Bennett has recalled veteran utility Darren Smith to play lock while another utility, Casey Maguire, will fill in at hooker. Bennett has also named Berrick Barnes on the interchange bench in a move that could see the flashy young fella get his first taste of the NRL.
