Wellington still fighting for NRL

Southern Orcas chairman Andrew Chalmers vows the Wellington rugby league franchise has not given up of joining the NRL despite being pipped by the Gold Coast for a spot in the competition for 2007.

Chalmers says he was in negotiations with two NRL clubs about staging games at Wellington's Westpac Trust Stadium next year.

He says Wellington's most realistic chance of gaining entry into the league was if an existing team decided to relocate to Wellington, but admitted this was unlikely to happen in the foreseeable future.
