Widnes Fall Short at 7's

Widnes suffered their third straight defeat at the World Sevens with a 35-11 loss to the Parramatta Eels. Widnes, who were Britain's only representatives in Sydney, lost their opening match 22-18 to New South Wales Country, before going down 34-13 to Cronulla.

Defending champions Parramatta went on to reach the final but suffered an emphatic 18-7 defeat to Wests Tigers.

The Tigers will play Widnes on Saturday as the Super League club continue their pre-season training in New South Wales.

On a brighter note for the Vikings, trialist Andrew Henderson impressed with two tries against the Sharks.

The Australian hooker or half-back is looking for a contract with the Super League outfit.

Despite their losses, Widnes remain positive as they make their preparations for the new season.

"We're not disappointed," said winger Nicky Royle. "All the other teams here have been training for this for the last three months - we've only had three or four sessions.

Royle, a union convert, was a tryscorer in Widnes' loss to NSW Country.

Vikings' newcomers, Australian forward Troy Wozniak, scored with his first touch of the ball and captain Julian O'Neill touched down for the side's other try.
