The New Zealand Warriors have signed long term Canberra Raider Ruben Wiki to a three year deal that will see Wiki return to his home town of Auckland to finish his playing career. The deal is believed to be worth in excess of $300,000 per season for Wiki with a possible development role waiting for Wiki once he retires.
The news came as no surprise as the Raiders could not match the offer forwarded to Wiki by the Warriors and there is speculation Bulldogs captain Steven Price is set to join Wiki at the Warriors next season as they look resurrect the club's flagging fortunes that have seen the Warriors go from grand finalists to potential wooden spooners in the space of two seasons.
The Warriors have cleared the decks by releasing Matt Jobson, Vince Mellars, Jerry Seu Seu and Henry Fa'afili to make way for Wiki and possible Price.
